چکیده

Introduction Some chemical members of the family of bromine-based flame retardants are now ubiquitous in the environment. Brominated diphenyl ethers (BDEs), for example, have been detected globally in almost every environmental compartment and their detection has forced industry to phase out production of two formulations: penta and octa-mixtures. In response to this, the BFR industry has begun to market alternative bromine based compounds to replace these discontinued BDE formulations. One such compound, 1,2-bis(2,4,6-tribromophenoxy)ethane (BTBPE), is thought to be replacing the octa-BDE mixture in some commercial applications. The recent detection of BTBPE in the atmosphere in the United States and also in biota samples from Lake Winnipeg (Canada) suggests that this compound is escaping from its intended material (Hoh and Hites (2005), Law et al. (2006a).

Brominated flame retardants (BFRs) represent a large group of chemicals used in a variety of household and commercial products to prevent fire propagation. The environmental persistence and toxicity of some of the most widely used BFRs has resulted in a progressive ban worldwide and the development of novel BFRs for which the knowledge on environmental health impacts remains limited. The object...

Thermal decomposition of 1,2-bis(2,4,6-tribromophenoxy)ethane (BTBPE), a novel brominated flame retardant.

1,2-Bis(2,4,6-tribromophenoxy)ethane (BTBPE) is currently one of the most commonly applied novel brominated flame retardants. In this contribution, we analyze in detail the mechanisms pertinent to its thermal decomposition in view of analogous experimental findings. We demonstrate that a 1,3-hydrogen shift, leading to 2,4,6-tribromophenol (M9) and 1,3,5-tribromo-2-(vinyloxy)benzene (M10) molecu...

Effects of dietary replacement of fishmeal by yellow mealworm (Tenebrio molitor) larvae meal on growth performance, hematological indices and some of non-specific immune responses of juvenile rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss)

8-week feeding trial was conducted for juvenile rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) to determine the optimal amount of Tenebrio molitor meal (TM) that could replace fishmeal in feeds without reducing growth performance, hematological indices and non-specific immune responses. Five isonitrogenous and isolipidic diets were formulated with TM replacing 0% (Control), 25% (TM25), 50% (TM50), 75% (TM...

The effects of different dietary levels of organic and inorganic selenium on some growth performance and proximate composition of juvenile rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss)

Selenium, a trace mineral complement is used as cofactor of antioxidant enzymes that protects fishes against environmental stress agents and enhances performance in fishes. In this study the different levels of organic and inorganic source of  selenium were included in juvenile rainbow trout diet to evaluate feed conversion ratio (FCR), specific growth rate (SGR), weight gain percent (WG), cond...
